What's New Local Area Information 'Heritage Railway Magazine' article
If you would like to join the friendly, largely local team of volunteers on the Nantmawr line, please contact Project Manager Ken Owen on 07802 880 263 or e-mail nantmawr@cambrian-railways-soc.co.uk .
Working sessions take place every weekend and occasionally during the week. An anorak style knowledge of railways is not essential, although a sense of humour would be a wonderful aid!
Our volunteer workforce includes a healthy mixture of young and not so young, male & female - you can be assured of warm welcome, for which the people of the Shropshire-Welsh borderland are renowned.
Tasks currently in hand include:
# Conservation work - incl. clearance of saplings, managing hedgerows and unearthing structures.
# Track work - carrying out repairs to the line, which is fully intact.
# Restoration - re-building the line's Permanent Way huts, formerly used to shelter track maintenance gangs.
Our 'social scene' is centred on The Cambrian social club in Oswestry town centre on Friday & Saturday nights. The club is located on Gobowen Road, opposite the former Cambrian Railways Works (now Maclarens Antiques). Call 01691 679499 for further details.
